![]() ![]() Gorgon is a pretty clear link between System Super 22 and System 23, with some of the 3D tests that are available in Service Mode sending raw packets to the 3D hardware that are nearly identical to what System Super 22 games do, e.g. It's not helped by the driver in MAME being in a fairly preliminary state, with the code for Namco System 22.5 ("Gorgon") being mish-mashed together with the code for Namco System 23 games. Namco System 23 is just plain complicated. Then there are games that periodically interrogate it and want it to give a special value that isn't always easy to know in advance. The annoying thing about KEYCUS is that historically, some games simply ask it for a specific response and are really easy to defeat. Namco System 10 is currently held up, as I understand it, by what amounts to per-game encryption as well as the Namco "KEYCUS" protection system used in tons of Namco games. For Namco System 23, people who have the rare combination of owning a Namco System 23 board and the hardware ability to trace out portions of the PCB are about the only people who could really help.įor your first question, it breaks down as so: For Namco System 10, someone who is a mathematician or otherwise good at breaking encryption needs to step up to the plate, as well as someone good at working out game protection. That doesn't mean that someone without emulation programming skills can't help, but the skill-sets necessary to help are equally narrow. The answer to your second question is "no", for the most part.
